Whilst the filming preparation is underway, I'm also beginning to look more deeply into finding a suitable lifestyle magazine that could host a feature for my upcoming show as promotion. We're tasked with producing a double-page spread feature article for our programme, in edition to a front cover page centred around our production. Currently, I'm struggling a little. Most 'lifestyle' magazines are targeted heavily in accordance to the gender of their individual audiences - women's being centred around beauty and diet tips, with the occasional TV drama being that of your everyday soap, and men's more focused on the idea of working out and 'how to get women'. Honestly, it's particularly more difficult seeing as its this lifestyle category that the specification has restricted us to, and with such an 'out there' concept, its a challenge to find one suitable. With the gender separation, I've had to promote the show given the gender of the lead character, even thought the show itself was never intended to cater to only males. This is a pain because it means that I will potentially lose out on the female audience that I worked to draw in. Still, I think I've found my most likely contender. New York-based 'GQ Magazine' is targeted at a male audience, and has a branch of products in the UK. This magazine is published in both English and Spanish, meaning that this allows me some potential to reach an audience more internationally, outside of only English speaking countries. The front cover usually features a singular male, almost always in some position of fame. The magazine aren't cheap, retailing at £3.99 a shot. However, I've considered the fact that most millennials don't have the tendency to read these magazines anyway. Readership across this generation has fallen significantly, so my theory stands that if the cover is captivating enough and publicises my show as I need it to, the glossy, sophisticated magazine is going to be more worthwhile taking the time to read and buy.
